Founded in 1979 in Sennestadt, Germany, Schirmer Maschinen GmbH has built a global reputation for innovation in customized profile processing. It all began when founder Thorsten Schirmer developed the company’s first automated profile processing center, the BZ100, for the wood and window industry. From the start, Schirmer focused on tailor-made automation systems that adapt to evolving customer needs and applications.

Schirmer’s modular technology platform has continuously evolved, enabling scalable and highly efficient production solutions. A key part of Schirmer’s success story is its long-standing collaboration with Beckhoff Automation, also founded in 1980. What began as a supplier relationship—starting with Beckhoff’s first control system for Schirmer machines—grew into a strategic alliance. This led to a major milestone in 2016 when Schirmer Maschinen GmbH officially became part of the Beckhoff Automation Group.

Today, Schirmer is a thriving, medium-sized company based in Verl, just 10 km from its original founding location in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. With approximately 200 employees and a global network of 20 sales partners, Schirmer continues to develop advanced technologies with a dedicated team—many of whom have been with the company for years.
