The Mecal Ariel-5 is a proven 5-Axis Aluminum Extrusion CNC, building on the long-bed, gantry-style Ariel platform. It comes standard with a powerful 10 kW spindle and MMI self-motorized clamps, providing the capability to machine complex profiles and perform intricate cuts. It is the ideal solution for architectural and industrial applications requiring full 5-axis machining on long extrusions.

 

General

This capable 5-axis configuration unlocks the ability to perform a full range of complex machining operations, including all variations of saw blade cuts (straight, miter, and compound angle), intricate notches, and work on the profile ends with standard tools. MMI self-motorized clamps come standard. For advanced automation, the Ariel-5 can be equipped with optional MDT clamps, which use precision servo motors to enable functions like "cut-and-separate" and bar-feeding style processing.

Spindle and Tool Changer

The Ariel-5 is equipped with a powerful 10 kW (13.5 HP), liquid cooled electro-spindle as standard, utilizing an HSK 63 F tool holder system. It is equipped with a 12-position rotary tool changer as well as a blade holder mounted directly on the moving gantry to reduce tool change times.

Clamping

To optimize setup speed and efficiency, the Ariel-5 comes standard with the MMI system, where each clamp is independently motorized to move to its position simultaneously. For advanced automation, the machine can be upgraded with MDT clamps to enable the following bar processing modes:

1. Cutting and Separating Mode

A full bar is manually loaded, cut into multiple sections, and fully machined in one cycle (including end machining and notching). Finished parts remain clamped and are manually unloaded at the end. Ideal for producing multiple nested parts per cycle.

2. Bar Feeding Mode (MAB)

The bar is manually loaded; clamps act as feeders, advancing the bar as material is consumed. Machining and cutting occur at a fixed position. Finished small parts are automatically transferred to a conveyor. Suitable for continuous production of small components.

Programming

Programming is managed through a standard Windows 10 based PC controller running Mecal’s intuitive CAD/CAM 3D graphic software. For seamless integration with third-party design files, an optional CADLink file converter is also available.
