MECAL MC 304 ARIEL CNC Profile Machining Center

Mecal MC304 Ariel is the most versatile machining centre for aluminum and light steel extrusions. Machine can be configured with 3, 4 or 5 CNC axis.

The 3 axis version has a fixed vertical spindle, it allows linear and circular interpolation (compound movements) on 3 axes (X-Y-Z).

The 4 axis version has a tilting spindle (Axis A), that allows the rotation on any angle within ±90° around X-axis. This allows processing on any surface within ± 90° without aggregates.

Both the 3 and 4 axes versions can be equipped with head driven (DPM) or self motorized (MMI) clamps.

In 5 axis version, spindle can rotate around two different axis (A: +/- 120°, B: +/- 220°) enabling complex operations such as compound miter saw blade cuts and variable angle notches. It can be equipped with self motorized (MMI) or self motorized cut-and-separate (MDT) clamps.

Two machining zones can be used (pendular mode) so that loading/unloading times are reduced and machining length is used efficiently.

The machine is equipped with a 7,5 kW, 24000 rpm electro-spindle with ISO30 (10kW with HSK-F63 on the 5 axes version) tool holder system and a 12 positions tool magazine.

The machine can be programmed using Mecal’s geometrical assisted CAM software as well as standard ISO codes. an additional software package allow the operator to import 3D files such as STEP and IGES.

  • Automatic Positioning Clamps (MMI). Each clamp bar is equipped with a brushless DC motor-reducer assembly. Therefore, each clamp bar becomes an independent axis controlled by CNC unit. The program will display the locations for the clamps. With the confirmation of the operator, clamps are positioned simultaneously.
  • Cutting and Separating Module (MDT). It is a system to obtain multiple pieces derived from a single profile and machine all of them in one cycle. Each work-piece must be held by at least two vices. Once cut, the segments are automatically separated and moved along the longitudinal axis of the machine to the position defined in the program. Then, each segment can be fully processed in the same machining cycle including end-notching operations. Clamp design on MDT version is significantly different then MMI version. Each clamp is equipped with a high accuracy servo drive system. Structure of clamps is engineered to achieve required rigidity and positioning precision. MDT brings additional flexibility and productivity over MMI version. However, this special clamp design brings differences in some dimensions which can be seen in the "technical data" chart.
