CNC profile machining center | MECAL ATLAS

The Mecal “Atlas” CNC machining centre can be configured with 3 or 4 axis and features a 5.5 kW (7.5kW optional) electro-spindle, 8 tools magazine and automatic clamp positioning system. The “Atlas” has been designed to work on long aluminum and light alloys extrusions. It is an ideal solution for the production of aluminum windows, curtain walls, window walls and other medium-complex aluminum extrusion processing.

Two machining zones can be used independently (pendular mode) so that loading/unloading times are masked and machining length is used efficiently.

GENERAL

Mecal Atlas is a vertical spindle aluminum extrusions CNC machining centre configured either in 3 or 4 axes. The machine can work with extruded aluminum, PVC, light alloy and light steel materials. It has a 5.5kW (7.5kW optional), 18000 rpm electro-spindle with ISO-30 tool holder system. The main rotary tool magazine has 8 slots.

This CNC working centre allows linear and circular interpolation on 3 axes. A axis is the spindle tilt and range ±120° (4 axes version). Axes drive system is consisting of a servo controller, reducer and a brushless DC servomotor assembly. An incremental encoder integrated in the drive motor track the position with great accuracy.

With the 4 axes configuration, using a drill, milling bit or a tap, it is possible to work on 5 sides of the profile. Machine can perform end-milling operations by using milling cutter.

The machine can work in two independent zones (pendular mode) that allows the operator to load and unload workpieces safely while the machine is still processing in the other zone.

The 2 reference stops are standard and located on each end of the machine. Intermediate reference stops are available as a pair in order to have 4 zones for machining 4 parts in the same cycle or 2 pairs in pendulum mode.

CLAMPING

The Mecal Atlas aluminum extrusions CNC machining centre can be equipped with “DPM” or “MMI” clamps. While the “DPM” clamps need to be repositioned one by one, the “MMI” clamps are capable to go to calculated positions independently, simultaneously and rapidly.

PROGRAMMING

Programming both with Mecal ISO programming language or Mecal CAD3D graphic CAD/CAM software are standard. Optional STEP/IGES driver CADLink is available for companies prefer to work with a third party 3D design software.

  • Cantilever type vertical spindle CNC machining centre
  • Axes drive system is consisting of a servo controller and a brushless DC servomotor. Position is tracked by an incremental encoder integrated in the drive motor
  • Work piece clamp bars slide on precision linear guide rails
  • Working area can be divided in two zones so that two separate working stations can be utilized
  • By using the disc cutter, it is possible to carry out end-milling operations on both the ends of the work piece
  • Milling operations are performed with linear and circular interpolation of the X-Y-Z axes
  • Pneumatically operated flipping reference stops
  • Tool magazine is mounted on the mobile upright beam and travels with it. This allows a quick tool change operation during machining
  • Tool cooling via Minimum Quantity Lubrication
  • All slide ways and ball screws are lubricated through an automatic central lubrication system
  • Front light curtains and side/rear safety metal screens
  • Capability of machining composite door panels via special wide grip clamps and a suction hood around the spindle

  • Available standard lengths: 7400mm (24.3') / 9400mm (30.8') / 11400mm (37.4')
  • Spindle power: 5.5kW
  • Spindle rotation speed variably up to 18000 rpm
  • Tool clamping system is ISO30
  • 8 positions tool magazine
  • Clamps open to a fix stroke and accommodate components up to max. 650mm (25.6") width
  • Electronic NC interface with a PC running on Windows 10 OS.

  • Electric spindle air cooled, ISO30, 18000 rpm, 5,5kW
  • Tool magazine with 8 tools capacity
  • 4 x Pneumatic clamps
  • Drawers for chips collection
  • Start up tool kit
  • Front light curtains and side/rear safety metal screens
  • Electronic NC interface with a PC running on Windows 10 OS.
  • CAD CAM 3D Graphic software

  • Automatic Positioning Clamps (MMI). Each clamp bar is equipped with a brushless DC motor-reducer assembly. Therefore, each clamp bar becomes an independent axis controlled by CNC unit. The program will display the locations for the clamps. With the confirmation of the operator, clamps are positioned simultaneously.
